it would just change the game completly, and although im not against it, but contact in hockey does take the skill out of it, especially defence. look at commodor, a very solid defence, great checker, but no puck handling skills.
Yeah, but you're not necessarily looking for good puck handling skills in a defenseman. You want a guy who's tough to get around and will come out with the puck in the corner. Good hits help too because the other team's forwards get intimidated and are scared to go get the puck along the boards after that.
yeah, but but just imagine ten really fast, great puck-handling, great scoring super passers as opposed to 6 good players and 4 really "crappy players" im saying crappy because most of the the defencemen are slow, good "slapper", tough guys. i mean hockey would be pretty cool if the skill was a bigger factor in it.
Yes. Defensemen are there to help the goalie keep the pucks out, not to contribute offensively. If they can, that's a bonus, but the priority for a D-man is to help out the netminder. If all they can do is play offense, they might as well be a forward.
trust me i do this on nhl '08, just pretty much turn you defence onto goal scorers and even sometimes getting them breakaways, it's alot funner to watch, rather than having 3 guys on your team doing pretty much all of the work offencivly. and my defence get the top 6 nominees for the norris, i know it's just a game but i think it would be cool to see in real life.
