Who, in your opinion, deserves the Calder Cup, awarded to the rookie of the year?

most habs fans would say carey price, and the only way i would think he would deserve itis if the habs make it to the confrence final round in the play-off, in my opinion, i think segei kostysin deserves it, a great playmaker, scorer and he's got alot of potential for future years

I disagree. My vote goes to Backstrom is Washington or Toews in Chicago. Like you said, though, maybe Price if the Habs make it far into the playoffs and if Carey makes the difference.
(P.S. do you like the picture I chose for you?)

Let's see...well I know you can called me biased and all for being a Habs fan, but I think either Price of Sergei Kostitsyn deserve it. Price is probably one of the youngest goalies in history to carry his team this far, and ever since he's been named 1st goalie, he's been truly spectacular to my eyes. The amazing saves he's been doing and all =P
then I said Sergei Kostitsyn, not because he's my favourite player, but because he came to play with the Habs back in late November, about one third into the regular season. He may not have the most points, but you can see that he tries his best every game and that he's definatly a player to consider. To me anyways.
Since these two choices may seem unfair to some, since I am a Habs fan and these are two Habs players, I shall name someone else.
Nicklas Backstrom, like VD said =P I can't really say much, since I've only seen him play two or three times, but from what I've seen from him he's a pretty good player. Maybe not the best, but for a rookie he's good ;]

Let's not forget Patrick Kane in Chicago, too. Excellent player.
As for Sergei Kostitsyn, as much as I like him, I don't think he stands a chance at winning it. The finalists will probably be Kane, Backstrom and Price. We'll have to see who wins out of the three.

AS much as it pains me to say it, a Hab deserves it and that is Carey Price. Price was one of the main reasons that Montreal won the East. Kane and Toews did not lead Chicago to anything close to a playoff berth and Backstrom did not lead Washington to the Post-Season, Ovechkin did. Price was instrumental in the Habs being in first and therefore, he deserevs the Calder Trophy

but you can not forget since backstrom has been playing with Ovechkin more, backstrom hasn't been the same player.

Yeah, well I'm sure any player who plays on a line with Ovie will see a significant increase points-wise. Racking up assists on Ovechkin's line isn't the hardest thing in the world.

Apparently, the finalists for the trophy are Kane, Backstrom and Toews. Not 100% sure if this is true, but I heard it on the internet somewhere. I'll try to find it again.
EDIT: Found it on NHL.com

Kane must win this award why? Because he lead all rookies in scoring (21 and 51) while playing for a **** team. Now the definition for the winner of the Calder Trophy is; to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the National Hockey League. Okay not who did the most for his team like the Hart trophy. So i see no other player who played most proficinent. If i had a 2nd and 3rd it would be backstrom and price in that order. But i think Kane has to win the award.

But I think that if Toews would've been around the length of the season, he would've won hands down. Unfortunately, I think he'll come in third.

i like backstrom, but he did get most of his points when he played with ovechkin, and i think kane did very well this season, and i think the calder is between them

Yeah, that' it. Like I said, though, I'm sure if Toews would've been around all season, their would've been no competition.
I mean, in 82 games, Kane got 21 goals and 51 assists for 71 points. In only 54 games, Toews scored 24 goals and 30 assists for 54 points. He would've easily had 30+ goals if it weren't for his injury.
