Possibly, with the first round draft pick going to them. They will be able to get a good young player with the want to do well and prove himself.
Top Draft Picks:
1. Steven Stamkos plays center. #91 Weighs 178, measures 6.0. He is right handed and plays for Sarnia Sting.
Regular Season Stats: GP-61 G-58 A-47 PTS-105
Playoff Stats: GP-9 G-11 A-0 PTS-11
2. Drew Doughty plays Defense. #8 Weighs 213, measures 6.0. He is right handed and plays for Guelph Storm.
Regular Season Stats: GP-58 G-13 A-37 PTS-50
Playoff Stats: GP-10 G-3 A-6 PTS-9
3. Alex Pietrangelo plays Defense. #10 weighs 210, measures 6.04. He is right handed and plays for Niagara Icedogs.
Regular Season Stats: GP-60 G-13 A-40 PTS-53
Playoff Stats: GP-6 G-4 A-5 PTS-9
4. Kyle Beach plays center. #12 weighs 203, measures 6.03. He is right handed and plays for Everett Silvertips.
Regular Season Stats: GP-60 G-27 A-33 PTS-60
Playoff Stats: GP-4 G-0 A-0 PTS-0
5. Michael Del Zotto plays defense. #4 weighs 190, measures 6.00. He is left handed and plays for the Oshawa Generals.
Regular Season Stats: GP-64 G-16 A-47 PTS-63
Playoff Stats: GP-15 G-2 A-6 PTS-8
As you can see most of the potential are in defensive players. Most likely Tampa will choose Steve Stamkos. They will want a player that will fill Brad Richards spot and possibly play with Lecavalier and St. Louis.
Also Tampa should most likely look for a good goalie during the off season. Since their goalie rotation didn’t get them very far.
Marc Denis: GP-10 W-1 L-5 GA-28 GAA-4.05 SV%-.859
Karri Ramo: GP-22 W-7 L-11 GA-64 GAA-3.03 SV%-.899
Mike Smith: GP-34 W-15 L-19 GA-84 GAA-2.59 SV%-.901
Johan Holmqvist: GP-45 W-20 L-16 GA-124 GAA-3.01 SV%-.890
As you can see Holmqvist was probably their most solid goalie, but he is now with the Stars. Even though he was their better goalie he still didn’t bring them to the playoffs. Neither did the other three goalies. And their Maurice Richard Trophy winner can’t carry the entire load for one team.
Vincent Lecavalier 06-07: G-52 A-56 PTS-108
07-08: G-40 A-52 PTS-92
Another Player Who helps the team in points is Martin St. Louis but he also can’t support the whole team.
Martin St. Louis 06-07: G-43 A-59 PTS-102
07-08: G-25 A-58 PTS-83
Another player that helped finish off this all-star line was Brad Richards who has now been traded to Dallas.
Brad Richards 06-07: G-25 A-45 PTS-70
07-08: G-18 A-33 PTS-51
As you can see their three players that helped the team in scoring points have all decreased in points this season. Not to mention they lost Brad Richards who is an over rated player but is still fairly young. Hopefully if they aquire some young guns it will help spark the vetrans in trying harder or give them a sence of watching out for the younger players. Carry them under their wing so to say.
They also don’t have much of a defense. Dan Boyle is their best defensemen and he was out most of the season from the cause of injuries.
Dan Boyle 06-07: GP-82 G-20 A-43 PTS-63
07-08: GP-37 G-4 A-21 PTS-25
As you can see he was on his way to a good season this year, but he was injured to the wrist and underwent surgery which put him out for the rest of the season. Hopefully next season he will be up and functional for a good season.
Paul Ranger and Filip Kuba took up a good part of the offensive defensive aspect of Tampa’s line up.
Paul Ranger 07-08: GP-72 G-10 A-21 PTS-31
Filip Kuba 07-08: GP-75 G-6 A-25 PTS-31
So all in all, Tampa Bay needs a new forward with good potential and a good goalie. Their defensemen should easily pick up better numbers next season if they get a good goalie during the off-season and a good forward with their draft pick. Good luck to them this up coming season.
