Recently there has been plenty of talk (within the fans of course) of trading Spezza for a #1 goalie or a puck moving defenceman. In my opinion this definitely is not the right choice. People are just using Spezza as a scapegoat.
There are few pros if Spezza is traded:
-If traded for a #1 goalie: The goalie controversy is over. With a solid goalie the defense wont be as scared to jump into the play.
-If traded for a puck moving defenceman: It will help the offense to get started with that first pass into the neutral zone, and cause more odd-man rushes.
Here are some cons if there is a trade:
-Ottawa's offense is almost non-existent right now, they have close to zero secondary scoring, and trading Spezza for a puck moving d or goalie, would take away from the primary scoring.
-Heatley would definitely not come even close to making the same amount of points without Spezza, he has not shown the same chemistry with anybody else on the team.
Spezza is a player who has made 85+ points for the past 3 seasons in a row. Theres no way in hell that this guy is useless. He has a very high trade value, but trading him would result in a new problem: Scoring. Theres no other person on the sens who can be that first line center. Some people are saying trade him for Thornton, but Thornton is getting old, and Thornton was ran out of Boston, he was criticized for the same reasons that Spezza is being criticized for now. Look at what happened to Boston after that, they sucked, and they're only doing good this season, this season is their comeback year.
Murray said multiple time that Spezza isn't getting traded, but some of those fans are really hating him. Nobody's defending him anymore, I though someone should.
I want to hear your opinions on Spezza.
What do you think should happen to him?
Can you come up with a trade that will fit both teams that includes Spezza?
