Was Anaheim, the defending cup champs, losing in the first round the biggest upset so far?

no, the senators, the stanley cup finalists of the east, getting swept in the first round, but the team they nearly swept last year. suprised? no, but upset?, yes!

That's also a good choice.

Surprised? yes. Upset? a little.
I didn't really think that the Ducks were going to wint he cup [again], but to get eliminated in the very first round? That surprised me greatly. Not to mention that my best friend and I had to make a few new predictions for the Western conference. We got every team right, except that we had said the Ducks would win, not Dallas. I guess you just have to watch out since some teams might just surprise you.

Exactly. It happens every year, but I still didn't take the Ducks would go out in the first round.

no, the senators, the stanley cup finalists of the east, getting swept in the first round, but the team they nearly swept last year. suprised? no, but upset?, yes! WHAT! I'm sorry did you miss the memo: Senators suck and have for the past couple of months. When they came to Philly in the middle of november they were the top team in the east and the flyers barely pulled one out but then they came again on Feb. 20 and they blew. If they hadn't started the year off as the best of the best they would never have even come close to the playoffs. Their goalies are inconsistent and their top three scorers have been so so since they all returned from injuries. The Ducks are easily the most surprising lost. As a childhood fan of the Ducks i watched the worst of times and celebrated loud and proud last year and i was expecting a repeat thanks to the return of Selanne and Neidermeyer. But thanks to awful play by Gigure, Getzlaf and Kunitz the Ducks will have to watch the cup this year.

lol, i'm aware that the sens literally sucked butthole their second half of the season, but c'mon your not surprised that they didn't win ONE game agains pittsburg, a team they were 3 for 4 against this season, and won two of those games while they were losing to everyone else in the league, and they won one game without Alfie or Heatley, but also lost one without Alfie and Heatley. As for Goalies, Gerber is an alright goal, but the former coach Paddock felt that Emery was better and lost them 10+ games because of that, even though Emery was horrible since his wrist surgery last summer. But how can you say that thier top three players were inconsistent after thier injurys, Spezza placed 6th or 7th for points in the whole league this season, and Alfedsson placed 9th or 10th this season for points in the league, after missing about 15 games, Heatley who placed 16th for points this season had 40 goals and missed 12 games this season, thier top players were only so so during the last week or two of the season, when none of them got much points.
and as for the ducks, they were the stanley cup winners last year, they made it to game 7 against a team who was playing really great this year and was 2nd in the league for most of the season, until the end. When was the last time a stanley cup winner made it to the Confrance final the next year? who knows, because it rarely happens, definetly not in this decade. so get your facts staight next time buddy.

Hey man...listen as a guy who has to watch the Penguins 8 times a year i knew what to expect from them. I personally believe that when it came to the l;ast game of the season pittsburgh benched players and didn't play 100% so they could play Ottawa. They knew they would kill'em and they did.
Ducks and Stars when 6 not 7 games. San Jose has been 2nd in the league than Pitt than montreal than anaheim not dallas NJ won the cup in 2000 and was back in 01 (lost to colorado) Detroit won back to back in 97 and then in 98 still in the last decade. Dallas wins in 99 and is back in 00 (lost to NJ) Colorado wins in 01 comes back to the conference finals for 02
So check your stats before you come at me about mine.

wow, i'm impressed. but when i said this decade i meant more for 2000 and after.but Dallas was in second for the fist 3/4 of the season, then slowly made thier way to what ever place they finished, anyways that's not the point...
...you are completly 100% sure that you're not suprised that ottawa didn't win ONE game in that whole entire series?
c'mon man, don't kid yourself

It's kool man but truly i'm not. going into the series i believed that Pittsburgh would just skate by. I believed that Ottawa had to win the first one if they were going to have a chance at making it a series. Don't worry Ottawa should be back if they can hold their roster together and find a new goaltender.

im not sure they'll have a new goaltender bu the will definetly not have emery anymore, so they'llprobably go with Brian Elliot or possibly Kyle Glass. who are alright goalers, as for defence Redden will probably gone and Brian Lee will step in, Commodor will be a Free Agent this summer, so i don't know what they'll do, i'm not sure if they'll sign him again. Stillman too will be a free agent, and he was a good addition to the ottawa powerplay after they got him, but corvo was better at the point.

I think they'll try to resign Commodore and Stillman if they can, I'd be surprised if they sign Redden again unless he accepts a Patrice Birsebois-like contract, and one of their big three will probably be gone and replaced by a number one goalie this summer. Overall, it should be an entirely different Senators team next year, and for the better.

Yeah i presume you are right VD, about Redden and one of the top 3 but i think they believe that Gerber is still a reliable goalie so i don't know if they will go for a starter but they should
