This team went through a drastic change this off season. They acquired a great first round pick in Nikita Filatov, he played for CSKA Moscow a Russian junior team.
GP- 32 G-32 A-34 PTS-66
This player has great potential and fits into Columbus playing style. If he gets a decent amount of ice time next season, i estimate he should get around 40-50 points.
Also the team acquired good players, such as Kristian Huselius, Raffi Torres, R.J. Umberger, Christian Backman, Mike Commodore and Fedor Tyutin.
Kristian Huselius recorded 66 points this season and 77 the season before that. He was also playing with a team that had alot of other great players that took the spotlight. Now in Columbus he has a chance to give his 100%
Raffi Torres only recorded 11 points, but also only played 32 games. He hasn't played for the best of teams over the past few years, and I don't think he will ever become a player to record 70-80 points, but does fill in a spot on any team that includes good all round ability.
R.J. Umberger is a player with potential. He is young and has only played 3 seasons, and had his best season last season recording 50 points. Playing for Philly was probably a good place for him to develop. He had the size to play for them and when they added Briere to their line up it gave him a skilled player to learn from. And now i believe he has all it takes to take his game to the next level with Nash and Huselius.
Backman, Commodore and Tyutin add a strong and beefy defense to their line up. Neither of the three are high scoring defencemen but they add the punch in the defensive zone and the skill.
As you can see the team made some good off season choices to improve their team for the upcoming season, and is surely a playoff contender. Lets not forget the players that played big rolls for a small team. They include Pascal Leclair and Rick Nash.
Leclair Surprised everyone this season with a whopping 10 shutouts, and 24 wins. He came from a season before that gave him 6 wins and 1 shut out. Whatever he did during the last summer worked, and if he did the same this summer. He should be in for another outstanding season.
Rick Nash had his best NHL season with only 69 points. But with the team he had last season its not a surprise. This season should be the one that gets him to the 80-90 range for points. And don't be surprised if he surprises us with a few more insanely awesome goals.
This team is based around young players with potential. They certainly have a chance this year to make the playoffs, and wouldn't surprise me even if they made it past the first round. But only the next season will tell.
