The Ottawa Sun is reporting a proposed trade between the Senators, Blackhawks and Kings that would involve the swapping of No. 1 goalies.
Los Angeles would receive goalie Martin Gerber and defenseman Andrej Meszaros from Ottawa. Chicago would add high flying forward Anze Kopitar to the increasingly potent Chicago offence, and the Blackhawks would move goalie Nikolai Khabibulin and one of two youthful blueliners, Brent Seabrook or Cam Barker to Ottawa reports the Sun.
It appears that this three way deal would certainly strengthen all parties. The future of the Kings blueline looks promising by adding Meszaros to the likes of Jack Johnson, Matt Greene and 2009 second overall pick Drew Doughty. Meszaros, 22, is a steady defenseman who finished seventh in team scoring last year for the Sens. Martin Gerber will be an unrestricted free agent next summer so GM Bryan Murray is hoping to land a #1 goalie in Khabibulin.
The top six forwards for the Blackhawks will be solidified with the addition of Kopitar. He would join Jonathan Toews, Marty Havlat, Patrick Sharp, Andrew Ladd and 2007-08 Rookie of the Year Patrick Kane and intensify an already lethal offensive attack. In his second year, Kopitar led the Kings with 32 goals and 45 assists in 82 games and he'll make $765,000 next year.
The Senators would receive an established goalie in Khabibulin, after Ray Emery was bought out and Gerber potentially being shipped off to LA. Khabibulin has 37 career shutouts and has 20+ wins nine times in his career. Barker, 22, and Seabrook, 23, are two highly touted defenseman who could make their mark on the league in the very near future.
