Last night at the Bell Centre, Canadians legend Jean Béliveau presented an award to Kovalev for his community leadership. Kovi's name will be engraved beside those of other recipents: Koivu Steve Bégin last years winner, Francis Bouillon Love the ' Kovi's Kids Loge': Under privileged and sick kids are Kovy's guests for a night of hockey & snacks at every home game !!!

I always thought that Kovalev did a great job with sick kids in Montreal. His box at the Bell Centre for them and his regular hospital visits are things that really make him respectable as a person.

I heard that his charitable foundation is currently in the midst of getting some specialized machines for pediatric heart surgery.
Not sure if it is for St Justine or the Montreal Children's (could be for both kids specialty hospitals)

Kovi runs some hockey camps in Russia for those kids under financial restrain so they can get a chance.
Kovi says that a lot of kids want to be an athlete or a movie star & they do not have a chance so he does his best to give them that chance.

It is the grass roots work of Beliveau (he celebrates 55 yrs of being part of the Canadiens family this year) Beliveau used to visit The Children's Hospital right across from the old Montreal Forum. Sometimes a priest would call him and we would drop in at the hospital after a practice. He would bring a stick with him. Sometimes a program or jersey sweater. A young sick child suffering from cancer/leukemia would say to Beliveau: "I don't think I'll play this year but next year I'll give it all my effort" Beliveau knew he only had a few weeks left to live.
