Following a punishing preseason that had teams playing as many as 6 games in 7 nights, the NHL has decided to compress its regular season as well.

The league announced the 82 game, 2009-10 schedule will start on October 1st and end on December 21st.

The playoffs will begin on January 1, 2010 with the latest possible playing date on January 28.

'cuz they do not want to take away interest in the Super Bowl
