Led by young stars Jonathan Toews, Patrick Sharp, and Patrick Kane, The Blackhawks are fourth in the Western Conference ahead of teams such as Anaheim. Is this a surprise? Are the Blackhawks a contender for the Cup at all?

I think that they are. The only problem is if the goalies can keep the puck out of the net. They will be fine/

Yeah i agree with Snoop. If Khabi can hold down the fort for them long enough to win then this team could go. Unfortunately they got screwed when they signed the one hit wonder to such a big contract. You Habs fans know who i'm talking about.

All I can say is that I'm happy we've got our young guys instead of him. He was a great guy and all but I figured he wouldn't be able to keep it up.

No doubt about it, they are deffinatly a playoff team now. They have worked up for it, picked up some good players, and it just so happened to have done the trick for them. Their goalies seem to be pretty stable. Go Hawks Go

well, at this point in the season, it should be obvios that they are going to make the play-offs, so that fact right there makes them contenders

Really I think what put the nail in the coffin for the Hawks was their lack of experience. The Red Wings gradually worked them down and the Hawks blew up in game 4 and took a ton of indiscipline penalties.
Now next season, all the young players will have gotten better with an extra season's experience, and come playoff time they will already have three rounds of experience under their belt. I think they'll be a team to watch out for next year.
However, I think that the time frame in which the Hawks have a chance to win a cup with their current team is not very long, so they'll have to win a cup soon. You might be wondering why I'm saying that, seeing as their players are all young, well they're going to have to re-sign all these players (Kane, Toews, Sharp, Versteeg, Keith, Seabrook, Barker, etc...) and they will all want a ton of money. They already have a lot of money locked up long-term with guys like Huet and Campbell, so they're going to run into problems with the cap.
