The Wild have been burdened by injuries. Especially this season having lost Gaborik for the most part of the season. Gaborik was around for only 17 games and put up 23 points 13 of which were goals. He is a very capable allstar player, but should he remain with minesota? Taking into consideration how defensive the team is. Gaborik is a player who loves offence and wants to score. Does playing in the West ruin this for him? Gaborik has never played a full 82 game season with Minesota. He has come close a few times but injuries have gotten the better of him.
This Offseason the wild have a few players they need to resign such as Gaborik, Veilleux, Kolanos, Skoula, Bergeron, Foster, Mojzis, Schaefer, Harding, Olvecky, Fritche, Pouilliot.
Here are the players i think they should let hit the free agent market.
Marian Gaborik
Dan Fritsche
Martin Skoula
Tomas Mojzis
Krys Kolanos
Nolan Schaefer
Resign the following players to these deals.
Stephan Veilleux---------------------3 years between 900K and 1.2M Per season
Marc-Andre Bergeron----------------2 years about 2.000M Per season
Kurtis Foster--------------------------1 year between 1.000M and 1.300 For the Season
Josh Harding--------------------------4 years 1.000M - 1.400M - 2.000M - 2.300
Peter Olvecky-------------------------3 years 600K Per year on a 2 way contract
Benoit Poulliot------------------------2 years 1.900M Per Season 2 way contract
Heres my reason for letting those chose players go.
Marian Gaborik--- Like I said earlier on. Hes playing on a defensive team when hes more of an offensive player. Hes injury prone and I believe would do better in the East. (I could be wrong!)
Dan Fritsche--- They dont't really need him. Although he is still young with Shepard and Gillies comming up I dont see much a fututre here for Fritsche.
Martin Skoula--- He is a good defenseman. Hes solid and can still play an offensive game. But i think he is going to want at least 3.000M next season and signing Bergeron is a better pick and getting someone out of freeagency.
Tomas Mojzis--- There is no need for him at all. Unless he would take a very small 2 way contract and play in the minor team again.
Krys Kolanos--- I see him as a flop. Wanting propbably over 1.000M next season is not worth resigning him. Theres a reason why he has not played since 05-06.
Nolan Schaefer--- Not worth resigning unless once again a small 2 way contract.
Heres my reason for resigining the following players...
Stephan Veilleux--- He plays a physical game, plays a defensive game. Hes a tough player, scores goals, plays overall a good game of hockey.
Marc-Andre Bergeron--- At around 2.000M per season is a decent price for a D-man who has an offensive touch. He can play the PP as well as the PK. He may ask for more than 2.000 but my initial offer would be along those lines.
Kurtis Foster--- Despite being often injured and not completing his seasons he is a very capable defenseman. Also 1 season at about 1.000M sounds about right for a player you can be to sure about.
Josh Harding--- A young and capable back up goalie. He has proved himself to be a very adequate back up and signing him for 4 seasons seems about right. He is also young and has alot of time to improve.
Peter Olvecky--- I see him in the future of minesota. Hes a young grinder who can play just about any where in the offensive zone. He also demonstraded a bit of a scoring touch and could deffinatly have a decent future.
Benoit Pouilliot--- This young LW has what it takes to be a top player in the NHL and not signing him would clearly be a mistake. Need I say more?
By resigning these players it would add on to the cap about 7.8M for the 09-10 season. But letting go of the other players would also add cap room. Not signing the other players would be saving about 8.777M on the up comming season setting the total cap hit for the team somewhere under 50.000M This is a give or take approximity.
Now lets say the habs dont resign Saku Koivu, there are large chances he comes to Minesota. He would play on the 2nd line, and hopefully sign for a reduced amount seeing as he wants to come to minesota and play with his brother. Lets say anywhere between 4.000M and 4.500M.
Now there are also some good UFA hitting the market some examples being...
Michael Cammaleri, Alex Kovalev, Marian Hossa, Saku Koivu, Alex Tanguay, Martin Havlat, Marian Gaborik, Todd Marchant, Mark Rechhi, Max Afinogenov, Eric Cole, Todd Bertuzzi, Joe Sakic, Jere Lehtinen, Brendan Morrison, Mikael Samuelson, Ales Kotalik, Steve Sullivan, Brian Gionta, Johny Oduya, Paul Mara, Mike Knuble, Derrian Hatcher, Miroslav Satan, Petr Sykora, Ruslan Fedotenko, Bill Guerin, Rob Scuderi, Rob Blake, Keith Tkachuk, Sedins, Mat Sundin, Matias Ohlund, Sergei Fedorov....
Alright let me catch my breath.
So thos are just the "bigger" named players who are UFA's. OBVIOUSLY alot of those players will not be hitting the market such as Sakic who will probably retire or sign with Colorado untill he does. Keith Tckachuk I see him signing with the Blues. ETC.
But players like Marian Hossa or Mike Camallari are players who will more then likely not be going back to their teams because of the cap hit. These are the kinds of players Minesota is well capable of going after.
Lets say Minesota goes after Camalleri or Hossa to replace Gaborik, and maybe someone like Scuderi who wont cost to much but could easily replace Skoula.
Anyways these are a few of my ideas. Let me know what you think!
