Snoopy I can see why you would pick Heatley, he was my favorite player last season. But Hossa would be the obvious choice right now IMO.

Like I said, it depends on the team, but in most scenarios I would sacrifice the maybe ten extra goals Heatley will score over Hossa during the season to have a player that will create his own chances, be reliable defensively, and that you can throw out in any situation.

maybe a trade: Heatley for Hossa straight up. Hossa is a FA though, right. but if not, they have the exact same cap hit.

That would be stupid of Ottawa. I mean, it would be a good trade, but he's a Free Agent, and besides that this is a great chance for them to shed some salary and add depth. Not to mention that Detroit wouldn't be able to afford Heatley next year as they have a few players to re-sign.

that will never happen in this life time. Red Wings are too close too the cap to do that trade.

I'm talking after July 1st. Obviously they're not gonna trade for an FA. I seriously doubt Hossa will re-sign with the Wings anyways. So maybe after the FA's, a Heatley for Hossa trade could happen.
You're right though, I would definitely rather a couple of players for Heatley than just Hossa.

I think what will hurt Ottawa's return though is that they are not in a position of power in this trade. They aren't shopping Heatley, they have to trade him and the other teams know that. All I'm saying is I'm not expecting a HUGE return, despite Heatley being such a valuable player; especially since a lot of teams will see his cap hit as a negative thing.

i agree with you VD, but would you want a player on your team that doesn't want to be there. because its going to cause problems if he is not traded. If he is with Ottawa at the start of the season ottawa will not start off good

Im predicting a trade a this week. I could really care less what they get in return. Well, you know what I mean, There's will be some quality coming to Ottawa that's for sure, Murrays not dumb, He's not going let the other teams take advantage like that.

Murray is playing this very well.
1. He's saying that if Heatley isn't dealt by July 1st, he's gonna be a sen next season, or he can sit out and have his signing bonus be negated. This could be a bluff, but BM is still putting himself in more control by saying this.
2. He's asking for alot, He's only going to make a deal where he knows that he's the clear winner in. This could result in heatley not getting traded, but BM doesn't have to trade him. If Heatley is a sen next season, he will play to his full potential. If he doesn't, he wont be traded, nobody's gonna want a player who is a whiny little girl, Im sure Heatley knows this.

Your logic is flawed in this part; if Heatley plays to his full potential to initiate a trade, what motives will the Sens have to actually trade him? Him being lazy and dragging down the team will force Murray to trade him eventually, and trust me, someone out there will take Heatley, and the longer Murray waits, the least it will cost to get him. Murray is being too greedy in my opinion. They were offered Frolov and the 5th overall from LA and they declined because they wanted Brown, Johnson and the 1st. Who in their right mind would make that deal for a problematic player? That other offer was already very generous.

The Sens are a team who like to lead by example, or at least they claim to. It doesn't look good when your top scorer/alternate captain demands a trade because he can't handle the coach. It doesn't leave a very good impression on the younger players joining the team either. Like I said, Murray doesn't have to trade him, I guess he's doing this because he feels like it's a good opportunity to add depth to the roster. Maybe I worded that wrong, I shouldn't have said "full potential" I should have said he's going to play well so that teams stay interested. Murray is being greedy, but in his situation I would have declined that trade too. Like you said earlier in this thread, these trades usually end up being Quality for Quantity. Frolov + B. Schenn or Larsson < HeatleyIt's not enough quantity for the quality. I mean Frolov is good, and Schenn or Larsson might end up being good, but Murray isn't a clear winner in the trade, and he wants to be. Also, saw a video today, it wasn't Murray but it was a sports news anchor saying that Murray said that if Heatley isn't traded by Wednesday he's going to be a Senator next season. I don't know if this is true or not.

Personally though, I'll take a potential 40 goal scorer in Frolov on a steal of a contract and a top young prospect for an extremely expensive guy coming off a bad season who wants out any day.

This is going to be my last post about this topic "maybe" This whole thing is getting dumb. Murrary wants to much for Danny. There is no way that he is going to get 2 top forward and a draft pick for a team.
The way I see it Danny has no reason to ask for a trade.

The way I see it Danny has no reason to ask for a trade. He doesn't, he asked for a trade basically because Clouston put him on the 2nd powerplay line, and Heatley took it like as if Clouston thought that he was a 2nd or 3rd line player, which was wrong. Clouston only out him there so that there would be more production coming from the second unit. Also because his minutes went down like crazy. But he played 22 mins in each of the last two games of the season because Clouston wanted to see him get 40 goals. If you ask me, I say he's using Clouston as a scapegoat. It's looking alot more like Heatley will be a Sen next season anyways, so I'm just gonna shut my mouth about the topic now also.
