After one bad game? No way.
Varlamov is in nets next game. His confidence is probably shaken, but the best way for him to get it back is for the coach to trust him and for him to have a big night. I have no doubt he'll recover.

I cant see boudreau going back to theodore they will be worse off. Varlamov gave up few bad goals, but you got to give him a break hes a rookie, and it showed tonight. He has to find his game for tomorow or they could be done, I think they should of kept huet.

For sure, it was undoubtedly his worst game of the playoffs so far, but we'll see.
I'm looking forward to seeing Vodka's opinion on this.

I think they should of kept huet. We tried to keep Huet, but the ******* ran off to Chicago on us. Looot of bitter feelings toward him in this town. Why else do you think we scrambled for Theodore? Anywhoo... I haven't seen the game in full yet. >_> Got tickets to see Star Trek and went to see that instead. From what my parents and friends indicated, this was the first game in which Varly wasn't playing like some super hockey god. Hopefully this'll teach our D not to rely on him so damn much, like we have been doing. The reffing I heard was better. Not good, but better. The one bit I DID see was Ovie's hit on Gonchar, and I really don't see why it's stirred up such a fuss at "OMG OV IZ DIRTIEST PLAYER EVAR." From the way I saw it, Ovie was moving in to whang Gonchar with his shoulder, and Gonchar's legs were too slow to get out of Ovie's path. As for the goalie in tonight's game... I dunno. Varly's been our miracle worker up until last night, but the kid has admitted that he's not used to our hockey schedule with the games being so close together as opposed to Russia. And with two back-to-back games? In two cities? He's gonna be dead. Theodore's certainly the better rested of the two... but he's Theodore. It's impossible to say if he's going to be on his game or not. Boudreau's indicated that he wants to play Varly again, but the man is infamously sneaky when it comes to revealing his lines and plays. We'll see. But my man Jurcina got a goal. Homaigawwwd <3

Their best defenseman was injured on a VERY borderline play. I love Ovechkin, but he kind of lead with the knee there. And if Caps fans are going to call for suspensions left and right for Kunitz cross-checking Varlamov in the helmet (which caused absolutely no injury), you can bet Pens fans will call out a serious knee-to-knee collision on their best defenseman.

Oh, you bet they have been. But it was tossed. No suspensions or anything of the like for Ovie.
And no, I don't see the cause of the fuss. Ovie looked like he was leading with his shoulder as opposed to the knee. The two were going for the puck. It just looks like one of those rough "**** happens" hits. Kunitz's hit was not only a head shot, but one where the puck wasn't even close to the pair at that point. Bit of a difference, if you ask me.

I agree with you vd who knows how long gonchar is going to be out now. It was much more serious than the kunitz incident.

If you read my post carefully, you'll see that all I was saying is that if one fan base calls out a play that had no consequence, you can bet that the opposing fan base will call out a play that not only appeared a lot more violent, but actually had a consequence in an injury to Gonchar. And if you argue that this is not leading with the knee, then I don't know what to tell you. You can be as biased as you want, I don't care. The intent to injure probably wasn't there, but Ovechkin saw that he was going to miss the hit and reached out with his leg to try and clip him. There's no denying that. Like I said about Kunitz's play; in the regular season that's probably worth 1-3 games, in the playoffs it's good.

I think Ovie definitely intended to clip Gonchar with his leg. Of course the intent to injure was not there but it still resulted in an injury. Which is why it is debatable whether it is suspendable or not.

but the big question is what if it was a different player. Like Perry, Cooke and another. Odds are they would had got a couple of games.
